Nishizaki, Itoman City – Izakaya “Uomachiya Bubuka”

From Naha, go south on “Okinawa Prefectural Route 256 – Tomigusuku Itoman Line” and turn right at the Kaneshiro intersection where Kentucky Fried Chicken Itoman branch is located, then enter Nishizaki. Then turn right again at the first traffic light, then turn right again at the first road, then turn left again, and you will see “Uomachiya Bubuka” across from the coin park. The area on the east side of Nishizaki, which was reclaimed land in 1984, is town of many izakayas, snack bars, and karaoke bars, giving it the appearance of “Itoman’s night town.”. Itoman City is the southernmost municipality on the main island of Okinawa, and has long been known for its thriving fishing industry.


 

On the last Saturday of Golden Week Holiday, three old men got together.

Two of us live in Itoman City, so we decided to drink in Itoman.

 

It’s been around for quite some time, at the time it was a “fashionable” Izakaya, so even after more than 20 years, the interior doesn’t look that bad.

 

The four private rooms at the back of the shops are also unique.

 

There is a japanese garden on the other side of the flooring tables.

“Uomachiya(Fish town shop) Bubuka” is a delicious fish restaurant, as the fish is in the name of the restaurant.

And there are plenty of Okinawan dishes such as sea grapes, Jimami tofu(peanut tofu), rafute(Braised pork in sugar soy sauce), fried gurukun(double-lined fusilier), champuru.

Fish dishes are the main selling point of this restaurant, so when I ordered sashimi, They served a really nice “sashimi platter”.

… Hmmm, fresh.

 

Basashi(horse-meat sashimi) was on the recommended menu.

there are shishamo(smelt-fish) from Hokkaido on the menu, it seems that they also purchase delicious products from outside Okinawa Prefecture.

 

Fresh food on unique plates, how do you like it?

 

After leaving Bubuka, we bought canned Chuhai at a nearby family mart to kill time until the pick-up comes, and the two of us drank on the street.

Looking at the map on the wall, there are many izakayas, snack bars, karaoke, billiards, etc around here, but there are also elementary schools, junior high schools, and cram schools.

I wonder isn’t it be trouble between the kids on their way home from cram school and drunken men…

 

Anyway, Izakaya “Uomachiya Bubuka” was a delicious restaurant.
